A four-member team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), led by Assistant Director Raju Ahmed, made its second visit to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) headquarters on Saturday evening as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the third division qualifier league. The team also examined aspects of the BCB constitution and financial matters.

“This is our second visit. Today, we came mainly to look into the irregularities in selection at the third division qualifier, the BCB constitution, financial issues, and other complaints,” Raju Ahmed told reporters. “Based on those complaints, we collected records and spoke with the relevant authorities. The work is still ongoing—we’ll collect a few more documents, examine them, and seek further explanations.”

According to the ACC, entry into the third division qualifier was once far more accessible, with over 60 teams participating. However, new rules introduced in 2022 led to a significant decline in participation, with only two or three teams taking part in recent editions—raising concerns about the transparency and fairness of the selection process.

“Today, our job was to assess how clear and legitimate the third division qualifier league was and whether there were any irregularities. We are still reviewing those aspects,” Raju Ahmed said.

The ACC also reviewed the BCB constitution, which was amended following a court verdict. However, officials raised concerns about the structure and clarity of the new framework.

“After reviewing the constitution, we found that BCB could have been run more efficiently under a smoother and more structured system. There are gaps—particularly in job descriptions and organizational hierarchy—which should be clearly defined in any institution,” Raju Ahmed noted.

He further added that a separate ACC team is handling earlier complaints involving the BCB, while this particular team is focusing on the third division qualifier and constitutional matters.
